Actress Reema Lagoo passes away
Veteran Bollywood actress Reema Lagoo passed away at the age of 59 after reportedly suffering from cardiac arrest. After the actress complained of chest pain on Wednesday night, she was rushed to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital in Andheri, Mumbai where she breathed her last. When contacted, Lagoo’s son-in-law Vinay Waikul, he confirmed the news to Times of India and said, “She was absolutely fine but around 1 am she complained to us of chest pain so we took her to the hospital. However, around 3:15 am she passed away due to a cardiac arrest.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled with Lagoo’s death. In a message, he said, “Reema Lagoo was a versatile actor who left a big impact in the film & TV world. Her demise is saddening. My deepest condolences”. Lagoo’s son-in-law Vinay Waikul said, “She was complaining of chest pain, so we took her to hospital around 1 a.m. She passed away due to a heart attack around 3.15 a.m. She was perfectly fine and had no health issues…so it is really shocking for all us that she is no more with us.”
Lagoo appeared in Marathi and Hindi films, besides doing a number of TV shows. She is survived by daughter Mrunmayee, who is also a theatre and film actor and theatre director. Lagoo has worked in superhit films like Maine Pyar Kiya, Saajan, Vaastav, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Hum Saath-Saath Hain among others. Her popular television serials included Tu Tu Main Main and Shrimaan Shrimati. Her acting career spanned over four decades and She was last seen in the television show Naamkaran, aired on Star Plus. Till last night, Reema was shooting for her television show Naamkarann and complained of chest pain after she reached home. She was rushed to the hospital, but sadly, could not make it. She is survived by daughter Mrunmayee.
With a career spanning almost four decades in films, television and theatre, Reema was an actor par excellence. Acting was in her blood, as she hailed from a film family (her mother Mandakini Bhadbhade was a popular actor), and she started her career by doing theatre. Her real name, Nayan, was changed to Reema Lagoo post her marriage to actor Vivek Lagoo and even though the couple separated, she continued to use the name and surname as she considered it lucky for her.
