AP CM not bothered: Opposition
Opposition YSRCP legislators R K Roja, A Suresh, K Srinivasulu and Ravindranath Reddy expressed their dissatisfaction over Assembly special session which was adjourned without discussing farmers issues. The opposition leaders alleged that the state government was not serious on problems of the farmers. Speaking at the media point, Nagari MLA R K Roja said that as many as 1,092 farmers committed suicide due to losses in cultivation of crops in the state so far but the state government has not discussed farmers’ issues during the special session, which was adjourned within half-an-hour after it began.
Questioning the ruling TDP about the Rs 5,000 crore Price Stabilization Fund which was promised by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu before elections, she alleged that the Chief Minister had no concern for the plight of farmer. “The state government is indulging in a political drama on issues of farmers. Farmers are not getting any profits despite working hard. At the same time, the Chief Minister’s own company Heritage is getting profits. How is this possible?” she said.
Stating that some farmers who mortgaged family jewellery to overcome losses had committed suicide unable to repay loans, Roja demanded that the state government purchase chillies and pay support price of Rs 3,000 in addition to the Union government’s Rs 5,000 per quintal. She said all the chilli and turmeric stocks of farmers should be bought by the government through Nafed and Markfed. She said that the YSRCP would organise agitations on the problems of farmers and their problems in the state.
MLAs Suresh and Ravindranath Reddy said that the state government was wasting time as well as money by not discussing the people’s problems in Assembly. “We travelled for about eight hours from Kadapa to Amaravati, but the government conducted Assembly session only for half-an-hour,” they commented.
