Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has taken it upon himself to spread awareness on Disha application, which has been launched to provide better security and protection to citizens, mainly women.
Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy, along with a battery of Ministers and officers, participated in an awareness drive on the Disha app at Gollapudi Panchayat Office in Vijayawada. He interacted with the village secretariat staff, Women Police and volunteers and enquired about the status of downloading the app in their clusters and the response from the women and girls.
“Disha app will accompany women and girls like a brother. As many as 17.65 lakh persons have downloaded the app in State till date. Woman in distress can press the SOS button in the app or just shake the smart phone and it will sent an alert to the police which will respond within no time,” said Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
As per a statement, the Andhra Pradesh government passed the Disha Bill intending to provide better security and protection towards citizens, mainly women and report instances of harassment, sexual harassment, and other crimes against women. The app has expedited the investigation of cases related to atrocities against women and led to taking appropriate steps to direct these cases through the legal system with the required evidence.
The CM said state government has deployed 900 mobile patrolling teams, particularly in sensitive areas, where crimes are likely to occur. A woman police officer has been appointed in each village and ward secretariat. Reiterating that the government gives top priority to women, he pointed out that in the state cabinet, key posts of Deputy Chief Minister and home minister are held by women.
Deputy Chief Minister (Tribal Welfare) Pamula Pushpasrivani, home minister Mekatoti Sucharitha, panchayati raj minister Peddireddy Ramachandrareddy, endowment minister Velampally Srinivas, civil supplies minister Kodali Venkateswara Rao (Nani), Transport minister Perni Venkatramaiah, women and child welfare minister Taneti Vanitha, Chief Minister’s programme coordinator Thalasila Raghuram, AP Women’s Commission chairperson Vasireddy Padma, DGP Gautam Sawang, public representatives and other officials had been present at the campaign launch.
