Changala Venkat Rao Ex MLA, YSR Congress party leader and Telugu film producer has been sentenced for life imprisonment by Anakapalli sessions court.
In a sensational verdict, the court has ordered for life imprisonment to Changala Venkat Rao who allegedly played role in the killing of one fisherman Gosala Konda.
According to Media reports, the incident took place 10 years ago in Bangarammapeta in Nakkapalli Mandal. In the agitation against BMC company, one fisherman Gosala Konda was killed. Case was then filed against then sitting MLA Chengala Venkat Rao whose men were allegedly behind the killing.
The Anakapalli Sessions Court pronounced its judgement on May 24, 2017 “convicting” Chengala Venkat Rao and his 17 associates. Along with Chengala Venkat Rao, his 15 aides have been sentenced to the life-term imprisonment while two others are sentenced to 2 years imprisonment.
This verdict is now considered as a sensational in Visakhapatnam district with one of the convicts being a film producer and a former MLA.
Venkat Rao became popular with Nandamuri Balakrishna’s blockbuster film Samarasimha Reddy (1999). He later entered politics and joined TDP. He won as MLA on TDP party in 1999 and 2004 elections from Payakaraopeta Assembly constituency in Visakhapatnam district.
In 2009, he was defeated by Congress candidate Golla Baburao. Later, Venkat Rao joined YSRCP in 2012 and contested in 2014 elections on the party. He was defeated by TDP leader Vangalapudi Anitha.
