Police, who conducted a raid at a house at Gandhi Nagar area of Bukkarayasamudram, Anantapur district and seized A horse, luxury vehicles, massive quantities of gold, cash, and weapons, allegedly belonging to a senior assistant of the Andhra Pradesh treasury department. The assets were bought with illicit means by the treasury department official, who allegedly demanded bribes to pass bills and had parked the movable assets at the residence of his driver’s father-in-law, the police said.
The cops found three 9mm pistols, 18 rounds of ammunition and one air gun during the raids. Apart from that they also seized Silver and gold, weighing 84 kg and 2.4 kg respectively, ₹ 15 lakh in cash, ₹ 49 lakh in fixed deposits, ₹ 27 lakh in promissory notes, a Harley Davidson bike, several other luxury vehicles and a horse were seized by the cops.
Police said though the house is owned by a man identified as Balappa, the disproportionate assets allegedly belong to G Manoj Kumar, who works as a senior assistant in the treasury department in Anantapur. Kumar had allegedly hidden the wealth at the residence of Balappa, who happens to be the uncle of Kumar’s driver Nagalinga.
It has also been found that Kumar owns fixed assets in the form of land and buildings across Anantapur district that are worth crores. Police said the investigation into the case would be transferred to the anti-corruption bureau (ACB).
