Top-class interdisciplinary university to be launched in AP
In an effort to strengthen the education sector in the state, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu recently unveiled the master plan for the new SRM University, AP-Amaravati. The university will offer courses in engineering at the campus from July this year. “SRM is embracing a new method of learning, which is not seen in India,” said Dr P Sathyanarayanan, President, SRM University, AP-Amaravati.
“We will emphasise on practical and application-oriented learning via projects and lab courses. We would like to create a worl dclass environment for our students and we want to help them create a better tomorrow.” Keeping in with its promise of making a world-class university, SRM has appointed international architecture firm Perkins + Will to design the Amaravati campus, which will be executed by the Shapoorji Pallonji Group.
And international firms Perret Laver and Society, which specialise in the higher education space, will be aiding them in the recruitment of senior administrative and academic members. SRM is also tying up with international universities from the US, the UK and Singapore to focus on pure and applied research in areas of renewable energy, space technology, IoT, blue economy, nanotechnologies, and many more.
“Developing research-led universities is fundamental to the progress of the state and the nation. We aim to do just that by bringing solutions to the problems that plague today’s world,” said Dr Narayana Rao, Pro-vice-chancellor, SRM University, AP-Amaravati. Apart from offering courses in engineering, management, law, medical sciences, pure sciences and liberal arts, the Amaravati campus of SRM University is launching an incubation centre SHRISTI — SRM Habitat for Research & Innovation in Science & Technology. SHRISTI aims to create 100 companies and generate 10,000 jobs in the next 10 years./p>
