YSRC demands helping hand for chilli farmers
In a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, here on Wednesday YSRCP president YS Jaganmohan Reddy sought remunerative price to chilli farmers in the State and justice to the investors in AgriGold. Tracing the plight of the farmers in the state, Jagan alleged the state government was not addressing the concerns of the farmers at all. The chilli production was around 92 lakh quintals this year while the price of it crashed to Rs 2,500 to Rs 4,000 per quintal making farmers suffer huge losses.
The failure of the government in supplying certified seed in time or to prevent spurious seed supply multiplied the farmers’ woes. “The low prices only increased the burden on the farmers now,” he added and sought the PM’s intervention in sanctioning a MSP of Rs 8,000 plus Rs 1,250 per quintal towards transportation and other incidental charges. “At least 50 per cent of the total produce should be bought by the agencies,” he said. Drawing Modi’s attention to the AgriGold depositors issue, he said in all 32 lakh investors had Rs 6,700 crore deposits in the organisation.
“However, when the scam came to light, the state government could not handle it property and going by the Chief Minister’s statement, 106 persons committed suicide. While, the depositors had been agitating for their money, the bigwigs in the government are exploiting the situation to their personal gains,” he stated. Jagan urged the PM to get all properties of AgriGold auctioned so that the depositors get back their money at the earliest. A CBI probe alone would render justice to the depositors, he explained to the PM. He also urged the PM to grant SCS to AP so that maximum benefits could be accrued to it under several schemes.
